I would like to think that a majority of my days I live with the code of: eating small balanced meals that make my body function and my mind happy. I am able to operate with integrity when I am focused and reminded about why I am operating under that code. (Being lighter feels better than Baskin Robbins tastes) ... When I am true to myself and focused on what I am doing I am aware of the fact I feel lighter and therefore better. I just need to work on being more consistent when it comes to honoring my code.

Re: Healthy Recipe

Yum! I think I am going to make that this weekend:)

Re: What is healthy eating?

Kirsten I know you are superbusy with kids etc but have you ever tried journaling your meals and how you felt after new things you eat? People often ask, "what should I eat" my best reply is eat what feels good to you. Eating small portions is like having a small closet. You keep only what makes you look and feel fabulous!

Re: 9 habits for taking care of yourself

I love this one. I am always so surprised when I get sick or run down until I think about it...I haven't taken care of myself for one reason or another. I have, especially, been working on the last 30 minutes of the day. Do I really need to see that episode of Modern Family or should I just crawl into bed with a good book (or husband :). Whatever....this is not the time to do anything but just be where we can feel ourselves relaxing and sinking into our pillows. I find I sleep better that way. (oh, and lay off the wine routine...this really does affect sleep/relaxation).

Re: What is healthy eating?

For me, eating healthy means feeling good both about what I am eating and how I feel after eating. A cup of chocolate kisses sounds great, but I literally feel heavy and out of balance if I eat that. In contrast, roasted veggies with shaved parm makes me warm and balanced and full. So much of healthy eating for me relates to how I feel after I've eaten and how my energy remains stable as a result.

Re: What is healthy eating?

I want a salad recipe with Kale and other good greens. I know you have great ones:) please share!

Re: What is healthy eating?

Eating healthy for me has changed through out the years. I used to burn so many calories swimming and playing water polo that eating healthy meant I could have three huge plates a day, snacks in between followed by one of my Dad's famous peanut butter milkshakes! My plates would consist of pastas, good rustic bread, cheese and loads of veggies. Since I am no longer working out nearly 7hours a day I have had to learn a new type of healthy eating and it is just recently that I have become conscious of this.

I feel have always been a "healthy eater" meaning I have always had balanced meals that consisted of a good balance between carbs, protein and fat. But, now healthy eating to me is eating less carbs and more protein and just LESS of everything. For example I don't need a plate of bread, salad, pasta and steak. I just need salad and steak. Salad and Steak give me the energy I need and leave me feeling lighter...

Now only if I could think like this every meal. (I am getting there!)

Re: What is healthy eating?

to quote Michal Pollan, "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."

Re: Roller Coaster – Jennie Sikora 2011 Chapter 5

So here's the thing, Jennie you have had job changes, bigger life requirements and since you have a food addiction, I'm glad to see you've lost weight at all. Addictions flare up under stress.

That said, you still have goals that are highly important to YOU. No excuses! I like that you're getting angry. You have got to be more uncomfortable heavy than the discomfort of hunger. I like that you see and are aware of the days or weeks when you add more cups. More awareness allows you to take respondsibility and gain control. You are stronger than you think. We know from watching our kids, that growing up happens in a non-linear way, it seems to me that when we grow up in adult-hood it's even less linear. Stay the course, it will be worth it!!

Re: Life Lessons from Pilates: Don’t move from the outside until your connected on the inside.

Thanks Susan, I'm glad you got the book and hope to see you again. By changing a word here or there, we can let go of blocks, eliminate resistance that allow us to move into a new direction. Try saying "Invite myself" or something like that. It's not setting up ultimatums for the subconscious who might not want to do a 180 degree turn as fast as you like.

Little things like that can take you a long way when you are one the cushion. Why not try it and see how it feels next time you are meditating. Go over words and phrases and see how it feels.
Take a negative phrase and feel where it is in your body. Then take an uplifting phrase and see where it feels in your body. That will give you a good gauge off the cushion to know where your mind is most of the time and how to move it back to a better spot.

Anyway, that's what I do and practice....
B

Re: The Power of Quiet

Great post, Julie! I know that is something that I am learning in my journey. It is definately a great challenge to take a few minutes or breaths to refocus on goals instead of reaching for the food to find answer.

Re: What is your story? Jennie Sikora 2011 Chapter 1

Jennie,

Congratulations on making the move to a better you.
In reading your post, I couldn't help but comment that words and powerful and directly tied to thought. Both conscious and sub-consciously.

Take for instance your phrase. "I can challenge the internal battle." That to me creates a feeling resistance and separateness. While battles can be good on the playing field, you are dealing with yourself. Your best friend. Battles are can be trying, tiring and not real effective when you need to be sharp and on your 'A' game when it comes to portion control.

Why not try different approach?

I would suggest Vipassana mediation. It's is simple and very powerful. You'll find that when you approach the issue there is no fight. Just equanimity and that is power. True power. Vipassana allows you to work through the issues, dissolves the blocks and moves you forward allowing you to master every aspect of yourself...Mind Body and Soul.

I personally have knocked off around 15lbs with FYC and an exercise routine, which includes a daily Vispassana practice. FYC and Exercise will get you where you want to be for sure, 100% without a doubt; why not Slay the Dragon the put you on the roller coaster in the first place? Keep your Mind Body and Spirit balanced as you change the vibration from who you are now to where you want go.

Working with Julie, you couldn't have asked for better support in all three areas.

The Force really is with you,
B

Re: What is your story?
